Update of the construction of Potternewton Lane signal improvement scheme

Works started on LPTIP A61N Potternewton Lane signal improvement scheme week commencing the 4 July 2022. Here's an update of current construction:

  • A new 75m length of cycle lane from Potternewton Lane to the Tech North and Lidl has been constructed but is not opened for use whilst other works continue.
  • Existing signal poles have all been replaced with the new Hybrid signal poles with new push button unit and signal head attached. The signal heads are currently covered over and the push button unit are not commissioned for use yet.
  • Some of the existing pedestrian crossing points have been relocated to accommodate the new junction layout.
  • Two pedestrian islands are currently being constructed in the location of Harrogate Road and Potternewton Lane junction.
  • Work will commence on Thursday 15 September to construct a pedestrian crossing near the Potternewton Lane signalled junction.

Existing on-road parking between the Esso/Tesco Express garage and the road opening of Potternewton Lane will be prohibited during the construction of pedestrian island, with completion expected November 2022.

Cones will be used to cordon off this stretch of road and there is alternative on-road parking available to the north of the site, from the Pizza Hut on Harrogate Road. We apologise for any inconvenience caused during the signal improvement scheme.
